Formula 1 BreakthroughIt did not take long for Ayrton Senna to get his chance to drive in Formula One. In 1984 Senna made his debut for the Toleman team. Between 1985 and 1987 Senna's F1 reputation and success grew. Becomming World ChampionSenna became Formula One World Champion in 1988 with McLaren, with a record (at that time) of eight pole positions within the same season. 1989 saw Senna finish second, but he quickly regained his spot at the top in 1990. It was during this successful year that the Brazilian launched his own brand, known as SENNA (which is still around today). Youngest Ever Three Times World Champion1991 saw him become the youngest ever three times World Champion, with another dominant which consisted of seven victories and another equaling eight pole positions. Donnington, EnglandDespite having a outmatched car in 1993, Senna put on another spectacular show winning a total of five race victories. His victory at Donnington for the European race is regarded by many as his finest race as he picked up five places in the rain on his first lap. This skill in the wet cemented him as the 'rain man'. The End Of A Great Racing Legend1993 ended Senna's last year with McLaren as in 1994 he moved to the Williams team. However, despite three consecutive poles, Senna did not gain a single point for the team before his tragic death at the San Marino Grand Prix. Senna's death left Formula One without its shinning star. |
