Accidents Will Happen, Warns Coulthard |

David Coultahrd fears the ban on traction control and engine braking in Formula One is certain to lead to a serious accident, sooner rather than later. Subscribe to our free RSS News Feed and get all the latest F1 news headlines as they happen. |
Speaking at the launch of Red Bull's new RB4 car in Jerez, Spain, Coulthard argued the worst could happen if races such as last year's Japanese Grand Prix, which was staged in monsoon-like conditions, were run without such aids. "The big issue is when we have standing water on the track without traction controls," said Coulthard. "We've got so used to racing in wetter and wetter conditions due to toys we've had available to us. Yet you take it back a few years and we had Ayrton Senna running in the back of Martin Brundle in Adelaide and other shunts. It's not they weren't talented, it's that the cars couldn't handle the conditions." "There was clearly pressure for us all to race in Fuji. But if we go there now without TC, you won't have as many cars finish, I can tell you that." January 17th, 2008 |
